Content strands of Radio Frequency Systems – RF

This strand aims the development of electronic systems projects used in integrated radio frequency communication systems. The course will address the various steps and challenges inherent to RF projects in modern technologies, including test notions. Thus, students will have high-level qualification using cutting-edge tools, theoretical content, and practical classes.


I - Introductory Module

Introduction to Microelectronics

  • Semiconductors (characteristics of conductors, insulators and semiconductors);
  • Semiconductor devices: diodes and MOSFETs. Electrical characterization of devices. DC and AC modeling;
  • The logic inverter and the basic amplifier (exploring a first application);
  • Combinational and sequential CMOS logic (logic gates and foundations only);
  • CMOS manufacturing process: Manufacturing stages of an integrated circuit; Manufacturing cost, yield;
  • Implementation of devices and connections in the CMOS process (layout of resistors, capacitors, inductors, MOSFETs, diodes, tracks, Padring);
  • Parasitic Effects in the CMOS Process;

Design of analog systems (from specification to chip layout)

  • MOSFET structure;
  • EDA tools for analog and RF circuits;
